- 1 green onion (finely sliced)
- oil for frying
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 5 can of crab meat ( or fresh or packaged crab)
- 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
- 18 won ton wrappers
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Equipment Needed in the making of Crab Rangoon
- Dutch oven: Dutch oven holds heat great and the top is actually a skillet.
- Skimmer: The easiest way to fry and gently remove the wontons without breaking them open.
How to Prepare Crab Rangoon
- Chop up the crab meat into small pieces
- Place in a bowl and mix well with garlic, Worcestershire sauce, and cream cheese.
- Add a teaspoon of filling into the center of the wonton.
- Brush the edges with the egg and pinch the corners together to form a four-cornered star-like shape.
- Repeat with the remaining wontons and crab mixture until all are filled.
- Fry in 350-degree oil turning them as needed to make sure they are browned and crispy, for about 3-5 minutes. (You can also bake at 375 degrees for 15-18 minutes).
- Drain the fried wontons on paper towels and repeat the frying process with the remaining wontons.
- Serve immediately with a dipping sauce of your choice and garnish with more sliced green onions.
- When you are folding the wonton sheet make sure you fold the wonton sheet into a four-cornered sealed.
- Make sure no air remains inside the wonton. As you fry the Rangoon any air inside will turn into steam and break open the wonton leaving the oil covered with the filling.
- If baking the crab rangoon, spray or brush well with canola oil before baking at 375 degrees for 15-18 minutes.
- If you are frying with oil make sure the oil is at 350 degrees, lower than that will make it oily and if it’s too high it will result in a quickly burned crab rangoon.
